The ancient name for Kullu Manali means “the end of the habitable wo rld”. Though one can drive in summer from Kullu valley into Lahaul and beyond, the sparsely inhabited west valley still remains quite unexplored. Zanskar valley is one of the most isolated in the whole of India. Ringed by high mountains, it is still very difficult to approach. One access road is only open a few months a year. This long and difficult trek is perhaps the finest in the region with astonishingly wild and spectacular scenery, with many high passes, glaciers, deeply eroded gorges and multi-colored rock formations.
Our trek begins from Manali/Darsh, crossing the high passes, like the Shingo Pass. We then walk to Padum the capital, visiting several of Zanskar’s many monasteries and finally reaching Leh. From Leh we fly back to Delhi. |
